Впервые после 1956 г. наша команда уступила первое место норвежцам, у которых 6 золотых, 6 серебряных и 2 бронзовых медали. У наших: 5/5/3. Третье место у французов: 4/3/2, из них три золота у горнолыжника Жан-Клода Килли, ставшего героем игр.
Четырехкратный олимпийский чемпион Александр Тихонов открыл счет своим наградам, победив в эстафетной гонке биатлонистов вместе с Николаем Пусановым, Виктором Маматовым и Владимиром Гундарцевым.
Наша хоккейная дружина вновь первая. Виктор Коноваленко, Виктор Зингер, Борис Майоров, Юрий Моисеев, Анатолий Фирсов, Виталий Давыдов, Виктор Блинов, Игорь Ромишевский, Вячеслав Старшинов, Анатолий Ионов, Виктор Полупанов, Виктор Кузькин, Олег Зайцев, Александр Рагулин, Вениамин Александров, Евгений Зимин, Евгений Мишаков, Владимир Викулов – олимпийские чемпионы.
Во второй раз как и в Инсбруке четыре года назад в парном катании победили наши фигуристы Людмила Белоусова и Олег Протопопов.
Первый и единственный пока наш олимпийский чемпион летающий лыжник Владимир Белоусов победил на 90 м трамплине.
Людмила Титова выиграла “золото” в беге на коньках в спринте на 500 м и “серебро” на дистанции 1000 м.
Серебряные медали завоевали: Галина Кулакова, Вячеслав Веденин, Александр Тихонов, Татьяна Жук и Александр Горелик.
“Бронза” у Алефтины Колчиной, эстафетной команды лыжниц в составе Кулаковой, Колчиной и Риты Ашкиной и Владимира Гундарцева.
Лучшим из наших скороходов-мужчин стал 37 летний ветеран Евгений Гришин, занявший на своей четвертой олимпиаде почетное 4-е место, уступив всего 0,1 сек серебрянным призерам.
