Although there are many figures in business and government who have been tasked with being knowledge managers and knowledge policymakers, the editors (of the U. of Queensland Business School and Queensland U. of Technology, Australia) feel that there is a dearth of understanding of the underlying theoretical and practical issues of knowledge management and policy. They therefore offer this handbook in which contributors from organizational knowledge research, social epistemology, information economics, and other fields distill current understanding in 21 papers, which were requested to be as accessible as possible without sacrificing intellectual insight. After a section on basic concepts, issues of policy are addressed in contributions discussing cultural capital, strategic issues in the organization of creativity, analysis of policy values in a knowledge economy, knowledge issues and the operation of industrial clusters, and intellectual property rights. The remaining papers look at issues of implementation, including information sharing, collaboration and network organization, information systems strategy, knowledge and social identity, and digital rights management, among other topics.
