This new book is about multicomponent flow modeling and analysis. Multicomponent reactive flow arises in various engineering applications such as combustion, crystal growth, atmospheric reentry, and chemical reactors. The purpose of this book is first to give a detailed presentation of the governing equations–including the expression of multicomponent transport coefficients–obtained from the kinetic theory of gases. We also discuss symmetric formulations of the governing equations–which are important from a theoretical and a numerical point of view–and we investigate equilibrium flows. A second purpose is to analyse the mathematical properties of the model. More specifically, to investigate thermochemistry properties and the structure of multicoomponent transport. Finally, the book discusses the numerical simulation of multicomponent reactive flows and discusses the problems associated with multiple time scales and multiple space scales and we present complex chemistry flame simulations. The new aspects are the structure of multicomponent transport fluxes, the accurate expression of transport coefficients, the rigorous mathematical results, and the interdisciplinary aspects. The book will give a complete interdisciplinary overview of modeling science and will be of interest to engineers, mathematicians, numericists and scientists. | |
