Berlekamp E. R., Conway J. H., Guy R. K.

This book is dedicated to Martin Gardner, and the influence of his “Mathematical Games” column from Scientific American on this work is considerable. In this third of four volumes, Berlekamp (mathematics and computer science, U. of California at Berkeley), Conway (mathematics, Princeton U.), and Guy (emeritus, mathematics, U. of Calgary) use coin, line drawing, and board games to illustrate mathematical concepts and ways to apply mathematical concepts to winning games. While each chapter is meant to stand alone, the authors caution that the basic ideas set out in volume one are prerequisite.
